Interview with Nomsa Mahlangu, UJ Senior Director of Sport

After she participated in the Betway Women in Sports Media Breakfast panel conversation, we had the honor of interviewing Nomsa Mahlangu, Senior Director of Sport at the University of Johannesburg.

She provided some insightful information on the status of women’s sports today and the necessity of supporting female athletes in sports media.

Mahlangu emphasized the need for more funding and resources to assist female athletes when asked about the difficulties facing women’s sports in South Africa. She also emphasized how important the media is for promoting and increasing public knowledge of female athletes and sports.

Mahlangu also talked about the value of diversity and inclusion in sports, pointing out that sports can be an effective means of promoting societal change and tearing down barriers. She stressed the necessity for athletic organizations to be more deliberate in providing opportunities for women and other underrepresented groups to engage in and succeed in sports.

Overall, Mahlangu’s observations were motivational and thought-provoking, and we are appreciative that we had the chance to speak with her. We anticipate that her remarks at the Betway Women in Sports Media Breakfast will advance the discussion about women’s sports and encourage others to push for increased gender equity in sports.
