Herstory of 1976 Documentary-Series
There is another angle of the 16 June 1976 story that has not yet been told, at least not from this particular point of view.
In order to fill this gap, two woman-owned organisations joined forces to explore the story from the viewpoint of the woman and her plight during the unrest.
Portion 85 and Planet Image Productions have now announced the unveiling of a ground-breaking documentary series focusing on the role and plight of the female person in the context of the 16 June 1976 uprising.
Some of the featured individuals in the documentary series include Businesswoman and Executive Producer Gabsie Mathenjwa, Mantoa Dorothy Molefi (Hector Pieterson’s Mother), Antoinette Sithole (Hector Pieterson’s Sister) who was part of the group that protested and the Nzima family (Sam Nzima is responsible for the infamous June 16 photograph).
Other interviews were done with some of the members of the (1976 detachment) which was the result of the June 16 protest. This changed the trajectory of the apartheid regime. The documentary series is an engaging recall of the significant contribution made in the fight for an equal South Africa.
The documentary series shines light on the women whose entire lives were changed by that event. The women open up about their experiences and some jaw-dropping revelations about the time. The documentary series will be released on the 16th of June 2023.
