Joburg youth month kicks off with the Aluta Nova Festival
The City of Joburg’s flagship arts, culture, and heritage event, Aluta Nova is back for the 3rd edition. The festival will take place on Saturday, 3 June 2023 between 12pm and 10pm at the James Hall Museum of Transport in Rosettenville.
From its inception, Aluta Nova has been promoting and encouraging a museum-going culture amongst youth, while creating multiple market access opportunities for creatives, SMMEs, and artists. While the festival is still growing, over the past two years it has created jobs for 100 SMME’s and supported 40 artists.
Families attend the event to experience the rich history and heritage of the iconic City of Johannesburg. It’s a day filled with music, museum walkabouts, picnic, thrilling tours on the historic 1952 London bus, a food and makers market as well as kiddies fun art activities.
Museums are known as silent spaces of contemplation and learning – Aluta Nova breaks the silence by permeating the thick walls of heritage through the contemporary voices of youth. The festival brings the museum space to life through music, making learning more accessible and dynamic for young people.
This year’s live performances and DJs will feature a diverse line-up of some of Joburg’s top and emerging talent such as Muzi, Lelowhatsgood, BLKJKS, Deniece Marz, Rosie Parade, Hammathedude, as well as Painted Flowers – an exciting new band in town.
Entrance is free, but tickets are limited and online registration is compulsory. Register now on www.quicket.co.za.
