Gauteng Sport, Arts and Culture Activities: 19 – 20 August 2023
A series of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation activities have been lined across the Gauteng City Region.
In pursuit of its vision for an active, creative, and modernised Region contributing to sustainable economic growth and social cohesion, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation continues to work with others to create an enabling environment and accelerated social transformation for sporting, artistic, and cultural excellence.
Every day and every weekend the province turns into a playing field for various sports where communities come together as part of recreation, social cohesion, talent identification and access to markets.
The following are events in which the department is supporting or leading: –
SPORT & RECREATION:
Event 1: OR Tambo – Soncini Midvaal Local Municipal Games
The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will hold the OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Local Games. The games are aimed at selecting regional teams to participate in the provincial games, held in October 2023.

Event 2: International Boxing in honour of Madiba hosted in Gauteng.
The Gauteng Provincial Government is happy to host yet another world-class event on its shores, an international boxing tournament in honour of the late founding father of our democracy, Nelson ‘Madiba’ Mandela.
The 8th Annual Celebration of Madiba as a Boxer tournament featuring 10 fights including 3 international bouts, will be held a short distance away from the Mandela House at Orlando Community Hall in Soweto this coming Sunday, 20 August 2023.

The Department will hold auditions to identify poetry, theatre, and dance talent as part of promoting the arts in local communities.
