Big Zulu, Phuzekhemisi, Msaki & Sho Madjozi unveil as judges of Ushuni Womhlaba

With only a few weeks left before going on air, rapper, Sho Madjozi, rapper and songwriter, Big Zulu, veteran Maskandi musician, Phuzekhemisi and talented composer and singer, Msaki have been unveiled as the judges of the brand new SABC 1’s exciting singing and music competition reality television show, uShuni Womhlaba.

Ushuni Womhlaba hosted by Ukhozi FM’s Mandla Magwaza, affectionately known by his listeners as “Njinji Wami” and Metro FM’s Mpumi Mlambo, aka “Msakazi” will premiere on 7 July 2024 on SABC 1 from 18:00 – 19:00.

The seasoned judges whose composite musical journeys have had tremendous impact in the South African music scene will make positive contribution to the show.

“From legendary to internationally acclaimed, these ensemble judges will journey with the contestants in growing their artistry, helping them through different stages of the competition, as they navigate their way throughout the week. As Thabo Mphelo Films, we are thrilled to be associated with them and we look forward to the first season of the show,” said TMF CEO Thabo Mphelo.

Ushuni Womhlaba aims to unearth the best of Maskandi, Mbaqanga, Isicathamiya, Afro-pop and traditional music talent. 40 talented contestants will be selected through regional and online auditions, opening this opportunity up to aspiring musicians across the country.

With a unique and vibrant television format, the show will run for 16 weeks, ending in October 2024. Contestants will compete in three entertaining, exciting, and emotional rounds, putting their musicality to the test.

AUDITIONS

The first round of auditions will be held in Johannesburg, Kwa Mai Mai on the 22nd and 23rd June 2024 at 09:00 AM – 17:00 PM.

Incredible prizes await the coveted winner, including a Grand Cash Prize, a once-in-a- lifetime artist mentorship that will provide invaluable guidance, and a recording deal to produce an album, working with Mzansi’s finest in the scene. The second and third prize winners will also walk away with prizes that could help propel them in their efforts to take their music careers to the next level.
