Telkom Netball Continues to Make Strides in Promoting the Sport and Empowering Women

This year must be one of the most important years for women sports in South Africa. From witnessing the resounding success of the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the Netball World Cup to the ongoing momentum in the various disciplines such as women’s football, women’s sport keeps making remarkable strides that inspire the nation.

Telkom, as a proud partner of the Netball World Cup is set to continue championing the growth and empowerment of women in South Africa. A few of our highlights include the key sponsorship of the Vitality 2023 Netball World Cup, the rise of the Telkom Netball League (TNL) and Telkom Netball Championship (TNC), not forgetting the Stand Tall campaign as well as the exciting 2023 Netball World Cup Trophy Tour.

Raising The Flag High for Netball Through Sports Sponsorships

Telkom passionately continues to raise the flag high for women’s sports, particularly netball. Our sponsorships of the tournaments such as the TNL, TNC, which will be played at Hoërskool D.F. Malan from 10 July to 14 July, and the upcoming 2023 Netball World Cup cements our role in scaling the scaling of netball in South Africa by providing platforms for teams as well as the youth to excel and get involved.

The Telkom Netball League, which took place at the Heartfelt Arena allowed young women to showcase their skills and offered scouting opportunities for national team selection. The upcoming 2023 Netball World Cup, hosted in Cape Town, will feature 16 top nations, marking the first time the event is held in Africa. Telkom is one of the title sponsors of the tournament.

Stand Tall: A Catalyst Campaign for Aspiring Netball Players

The Telkom #StandTall campaign in the lead-up to the Netball World Cup, aims to inspire and encourage the youth of South Africa to embrace their individuality and to not give up on their dreams. The campaign uses four SPAR Protea players as ambassadors. These ambassadors will not only host netball clinics in their hometowns but will share their heroic stories with young netball players in order to encourage their involvement in the sport. The #StandTall campaign contributes to Telkom’s continuous goal of being propellers of female-led sports in South Africa.

Telkom’s Key Involvement in The Netball World Cup Trophy Tour The Trophy Tour, which is a significant aspect of our netball partnership with Netball South Africa, has been going around the country, igniting excitement and promoting the sport

among fans. This nationwide journey has brought netball closer to communities, fostering a sense of unity and sparking the passion for netball in young and aspiring players alike.

Our involvement in the tour coincided with opening day of this year’s successful Telkom Netball League and as it makes its final lap around the country it has been well-received as the activity engages netball fanatics through interactive sessions, coaching clinics, and community events, all aimed at inspiring the next generation of netball stars.

The trophy tour has already made its way past four provinces and is set to continue its journey through the Free State, Northwest, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and will make the final stop in the host city, Cape Town.  

While we continue to support the growth of netball, Telkom remains dedicated to investing in the development of the sport at various levels.
