Joburg MMC for Public Safety launches Easter Safety campaign
Tomorrow, Tuesday 4 April 2023, the MMC for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Dr. Mgcini Tshwaku will be launching the annual Easter Safety campaign from the corner of Woodmead and Waterfall Crescent.
“Operation #ManjeNamhlanje loosely translated to mean “Today, Right Now” is our primary theme with a subtheme #LungisaIndabaZakho which translates into “Sort out your business” is targeting motorists to get their affairs in order before travelling within and outside the city”, says MMC Dr Tshwaku.
Respectively the campaign aims to deter motorists from driving without valid driving licences, vehicle licence discs, unroadworthy vehicles and encourages motorists to visit their nearest Licencing Department or testing station to be on the right side of the law.
It also reinforces the importance of observing speed limits, reducing speed when it rains, using safety belts, not drinking and driving, pay traffic fines to avoid prosecution, not overloading vehicles, transporting weapons and drugs or getting involved in road rage amongst other things.
“I want to particularly stress the dangers of performing church rituals in rivers and streams without proper safety measures in place to avoid loss of life through drowning. The possibility of contracting cholera is very real as well under the circumstances”, says MMC Dr Tshwaku.
Continuing he said that ,”As motorists we are all obliged to help reduce road accidents and preserve life. I implore everyone to set an example of good driving and tolerance on the roads, rather arrive late but safe at your destination”.
The Metropolitan Police together with SAPS will be on high alert for any traffic and bylaw violations including dealing swiftly with all criminal activities.
