Masinga – The Calling, premiering at Durban International Film Festival on Saturday
Masinga – The Calling is a psychological crime thriller that explores an Interpol detective’s return to his homeland, where he is forced to confront the demons of his youth and trauma of the ritual murder of his albino brother, while rescuing a young Chinese girl from a similarly gruesome fate.
SAFTA winner Hakeem Kae-Kazeem (Pirates of Caribbean, Hotel Rwanda) leads a star-studded cast that includes Shamilla Miller (The Umbrella Men, Devil’s Peak) as his rookie partner, plus SAFTA winners Abdul Khoza (The Wife, Shaka iLembe), Fana Mokoena (World War Z, The Lab), Warren Masemola (The Republic, Tjovitjo), Kenneth Nkosi (District 9, Tsotsi), and Brandon Auret (Elysium, District 9, Rebel Moon), as well as Sean Cameron Michael (Catch Me A Killer, Black Sails) and Niza Jay (The Wound).
Filmed in KwaZulu-Natal and London with Impi Films, the Showmax Original is written, produced and directed by KZN-born Mark Engels.
Masinga – The Calling will screen on Showmax in 2025.
