RCDT Marks 10 Years of Transformative Impact at 2025 Annual General Meeting
The Rustenburg Community Development Trust (RCDT) is set to convene its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 27 November 2025, marking over a decade of dedicated service to sustainable community upliftment. Established in 2014, RCDT has empowered local communities through innovative partnerships, focusing on self-determination, economic diversification, and long-term socio-economic growth. The upcoming event to be held at the RCDT Hub in PaardeKraal, Rustenburg, from 08:30 to 16:00, will showcase the Trust’s remarkable achievements in the 2024/25 financial year, unveil new strategic initiatives, and introduce incoming community board members.
As a cornerstone of community-led development in Rustenburg, RCDT’s mission is to foster sustainable upliftment through mining and beyond, ensuring diverse socio-economic opportunities for residents. Over the past year, the Trust has demonstrated resilience and innovation, reaching over 50,000 beneficiaries across 65 villages, delivering 15 targeted development programmes in areas such as skills training, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure. This milestone underscores RCDT’s commitment to creating skilled, adaptable citizens who can thrive in evolving economic landscapes.
Financially, RCDT remains robust, with a 25% increase in funding secured through transparent governance and strategic partnerships. This growth has enabled expanded programmes, ensuring long-term sustainability and measurable impact. Looking ahead, the Trust is poised to advance five key mandates: Mining, Beyond Mining, Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Economic Development. These priorities will drive community participation, innovation, and partnerships to build a producer economy where locals are not just consumers but active creators of value.
The AGM agenda promises engaging sessions for stakeholders and media alike. The morning will feature opening remarks from the Chairperson, a comprehensive annual report presentation by the Operations Manager, and a financial review by the Finance Manager, words of support from the strategic partners and newly branded Valterra, previously Anglo Platinum, followed by a Q&A. In the afternoon, attendees will hear about the strategic plan for 2025/26, bid farewell to exiting board Trustees, and welcome new ones. A special resolution may also be tabled, highlighting governance updates and future directions.
“This AGM is more than a reflection, it’s a launchpad for the next decade of empowerment,” said Mr Thabo Makama, Chairperson of RCDT. “As we mark 10 years, we’re proud of our community-led approach that has turned visions into realities, from skills development to economic diversification. Our focus on self-determination ensures that Rustenburg’s residents drive their own progress, creating lasting change beyond the mines.”
Katleho Thinane, Operations Manager, added: “In 2024/25, we’ve touched lives in profound ways, delivering programmes that equip citizens with the tools to adapt and thrive. Across 65
villages, we’ve seen entrepreneurs emerge, families stabilize, and communities unite. This is the power of partnerships, sustainable impact that resonates at the grassroots level.”
Siya Nkosi, Finance, emphasized the Trust’s stability: “Our 25% funding growth reflects unwavering trust from partners and impeccable governance. This financial health allows us to invest boldly in agriculture, manufacturing, and beyond, ensuring every rand translates to real community value and long-term prosperity.”
Mr Thabo Makama further noted: “The introduction of new board members from our communities signals a fresh era of inclusive decision-making. We’re committed to transparency and innovation, inviting all stakeholders to join us in building a mobile, skilled Rustenburg ready for tomorrow’s challenges.”
