Derby rivalries reignite as King Price Derby Series returns after Easter break

The King Price Derby Series returns on 11 April following a busy Easter festival period, and if recent results are anything to go by, another explosive round of schoolboy rugby is on the cards.

Affies come into their clash against Paarl Gimnasium in ominous form, having dismantled Grey High 66–19 at the Pretoria Boys’ High Easter Rugby Festival. But they face a Paarl Gim side equally full of confidence after a dominant 73–17 victory over Menlopark at the Noord-Suid festival in Pretoria. With both teams firing, this encounter has all the makings of a classic.

In Paarl, Boishaai will be looking to bounce back after a narrow 31–28 loss to Garsfontein when they host a confident Oakdale outfit. Oakdale impressed with a 27–19 win over Noordheuwel at the Noord-Suid festival and will arrive believing they can cause an upset away from home.

Johannesburg hosts the final clash of the weekend as Jeppe renew their rivalry with King Edward VII. Jeppe will still be feeling the sting of a 40–36 loss to Michaelhouse at the Pretoria Boys’ High Easter Rugby Festival, while KES come in with momentum after a solid 33–13 win over Queen’s College at the KES Easter Festival. Expect a high-tempo encounter as both sides look to assert themselves early in the second term.

With festival rust shaken off and rivalries front of mind, the King Price Derby Series is set to pick up right where it left off.
