Rave media reviews for Samsung’s latest signing in the A series
A month after its release in South Africa, the Galaxy A57, Samsung’s latest offering in the A-series, has impressed media professionals.
The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G officially launched in South Africa on 24 April 2026, replacing its older sibling, the A56.
The phone boasts an improved, silkier and much lighter design than its predecessors.
Compared with the heavier 198g of the A56, the new A57 shed nearly 20 grams, weighing in at 179g. This gives the phone a much lighter feel and ease when in use.
The ‘Awesome Intelligence’ AI tools make the A57 a heavy hitter in its mid-range category.
These are the two features that stood out for experienced Multimedia Sport journalist Siya Ndlela, who was among the first to spend some time with the A57 and has grown a massive social media following as a multimedia journalist.
“Firstly, at a time when we have to use multiple devices both outside and for our work, it’s nice to hold a device that really feels lighter in your palm.
“Working in a world of rapid information, the AI tools have been a dream – Circle to search is probably a feature I’ve abused at this point, but it’s all just very convenient!”
Fellow versatile sports journalist Khomotso Makgabutlane of SportsWithKhomotso added: “It might sound subtle, but I like how smooth it is in terms of transition from app to app, camera angles, and generally multitasking – which I do a lot of in my work.”
That’s thanks to the A57’s Exynos 1680 chipset, built on an ultra-efficient 4-nanometer fabrication process.
The upgraded 8 GB LPDDR5X RAM also means faster processing and the complete elimination of micro-stutters and app-reloading lags, some users noted in the older models.
Overall, the device makes a great impression as an all-rounder, balancing the needs of the modern professional, and also simple enough just for day-to-day life.
