Planet Fitness opens Boksburg club, focusing on the joy of movement

Planet Fitness has opened its newest club, in Boksburg, extending its national footprint while reinforcing its philosophy that places movement, inclusion, and wellbeing at the centre of how people train.

Designed for how South Africans live today, the Boksburg club reflects a shift away from rigid ideals and towards training as something personal, intuitive, and sustainable. It is a space built to support different bodies, energy levels, and motivations, irrespective of whether members are training intensely, moving gently, or simply showing up for themselves.

“Our focus is not on prescribing how people should train,” says Mannee de Wet, Managing Director of Planet Fitness. “It is about creating environments where people feel comfortable moving in ways that work for them. When people feel at ease, confident, and supported, consistency follows naturally.”

The club brings together dedicated strength and cardio zones, a large hybrid training floor, group classes, recovery-focused spaces, and social areas that encourage members to slow down as much as they push forward. Every element has been considered through the lens of longevity, mobility, and overall wellbeing, recognising that training is not a short-term pursuit, but a lifelong relationship with the joy of movement.

The opening of Boksburg aligns with Planet Fitness’s broader brand direction for the year, which centres on movement as an emotion rather than an obligation. This thinking extends beyond physical spaces into how the brand communicates, translating into content and experiences that reflect how people actually feel, move, and live.
